Wii-dancersize

OMG…My 8 year-olds DDR (dance, dance, revolution) just arrived in the mail.  We are totally addicted to it.  For this 39 year-old…my body just doesn’t move as it used to!

I am wondering what kind of calories are burned…anyone know?  After half an hour of dancing, my heart is pounding and I need to take a shower!

I think this can be a good thing!  :-)

I work in a Battle Minefield!!!

Today was a tough day…I had so many offers to eat bad food!  I am a teacher and for whatever reason, parents want to shower their love by feeding me!  I had 3 offers today for Fuzzy’s Pizza, Chick-fil-a, and happy hour at Escalantes…all a no-no!  I sadly instead ate my whole wheat turkey pite, veggies, and water in the teacher lounge!  I am hoping for a small payout of atleast a pound lost for my sacrifice!  :-)

I’m Wii-lly Sore!!!

OMG…my 8 year-old daughter got a Wii for Christmas and we are all addicted to the sports package!  As a mom, I’m thrilled to see kids activly playing instead of sitting around vegging out.  As I was saying, we’ve been bowling, boxing, batting baseball, golfing and playing tennis in our living room.  There are fitness tests and training sessions also.  Anyway, I am having fun playing with my daughter (and husband, too) and I am convinced I am burning calories doing it!  I am actually extremely sore…from the deep lunges bowling and the boxing wears me out! I encourage you to check out your children’s Christmas toys and give the Wii a try.  My mother-in-law also sent a DDR/Hottest Dance Party but it was back-ordered and it has not arrived yet.  Who knows what is in store for me when it gets here!  :-)

The fridge is stocked!

For those that know me…I can be pretty tight with money and have a hard time splurging on things that are not neccessary.  Today at the grocery store I just had to throw it in my cart and not worry about it.  That was very hard!  I decided I need to concentrate on my health and not being a tight wad!

OMG…$5 for a tiny carton of raspberries, $8 for pinenuts, $3 for a  pomegranate, $8 for olive oil…I’m having a stroke reliving my shopping experience.  When it was all said and done, my cart was full of produce and the bill was $75.

The good news, my refrigerator is stocked with healthy food.  I spent an hour peeling, chopping, taking apart…blah, blah, blah…to get all the produce washed and ready to eat.  What a chore!  Does it get any easier?  Any tips out there?  In the past, I would buy produce and it would rot in the crisper.  My roommate in college called the crisper in my fridge the “rotter!”  :-(

I am a teacher and school starts tomorrow.  I have my lunch packed and am prepared to say NO to all temptation.  Did you know elementary schools are a nightmare for dieters?  It’s true!  Look carefully, teachers are chubby!

Wish me luck.  I need to stick to my eating plan for tomorrow.  That will be a good start.  Have a nice week everyone…cut up your produce before you go to bed tonight!

New Year, New Me

I’m a 39 year old married working mom of an 8 year-old daughter.  I’ve been overweight for about 5 years and decided to do something about it before I turn 40!

My goal is to lose 30 lbs. but secretly would love to lose more!  I’m going on a cruise mid-March for my 10th anniversary and it would be nice to feel better in my swimsuit.  In the past few years I’ve had kidney and bladder cancer…I can’t help but wonder if my weight was a contributing factor.  I need to exercise more, eat better and get more sleep.  I’m certain that these things will lead to a much healthier life to enjoy with my husband, daughter and 1st grade students.

Judging from past attempts (and failures) I need to stay focused and motivated.  I hope this blog will help me stay committed.  I am not very computer savy and this will be quite a challenge for me.

I am trying to eat low-fat food accompanied with lots of fruits and vegetables.   Restaurant food and portion control are  my biggest weaknesses.  My daughter got a Wii for Christmas and sadly, I am quite sore from playing with her!  I’m also jumping on a mini-trampoline for half an hour each day.  This was inspired by watching the show “You Are What You Eat” on BBC…we’ll see how that goes!  I go to bed way too late and feel trashed the next day at school…not a good feeling when you spend your dy with 20 6 year-olds!  My goal will be to go to bed by 11:00 pm on school nights.

That’s all for now.  I’m not sure how often I will post or if anyone will actually read this.  I welcome any support, inspiration or advice that has helped you achieve your own success in this weight loss journey that we have in common.
